THE INSPIRATION
Bayou State University began as a creative exploration of how a school identity inspired by LSU could be reimagined through an original lens. The goal was to create an alternative-style logo that felt familiar to Louisiana culture and the spirit of the Bayou Bengals while remaining generic enough to avoid copyright or branding conflicts, capturing the atmosphere, energy, and regional pride in a way that could stand on its own. What initially started as a design exercise inspired by LSU evolved into a concept I could build out for EA Sports NCAA Football 25, giving me the opportunity to experiment with how a fictional university brand could feel authentic within a real sports environment. As the concept developed, it gave me the creative freedom to push the idea beyond its original purpose, keeping the foundation of the logo while evolving it into something entirely new for the game environment. Since LSU already existed in NCAA Football, I adjusted the color palette to stay rooted in Louisiana-inspired tones while creating a distinct identity, then expanded the project into uniform colors and design using the constraints and templates provided through NCAA TeamBuilder. In many ways, the process allowed me to bring the concept to life through an alternative medium, blending my passion for art, branding, and gaming into a single creative experience.

The color palette pulls from traditional Louisiana purple, while the bronze was chosen as an alternative to the usual gold to give the identity a different Louisiana feel. It still carries a sense of royalty and tradition, just expressed in a way that feels distinct from existing branding.

The Logo
The mascot is based on the Catahoula, the state dog of Louisiana. I had been sitting on the mascot logo for roughly four to five years, originally planning to submit it to Centenary College in Shreveport, Louisiana, as an alternative logo concept. After discovering they already had, or had recently developed, a secondary logo, the concept stayed in the vault until I found the right opportunity to bring it back. When building out Bayou State University, the mascot finally found a natural home, so I adapted the color palette to match the university identity and developed it from there.
